Strategic College Planning for Students & Parents

Structured, step-by-step guidance paired with supportive, encouraging, and personable instruction.

Why A College Consult?

We start with your student’s goals and habits. Every consultation begins by helping your student identify personal and academic goals and breaking them into measurable, manageable steps. Together, we map out the year(s) with clear check-ins for accountability, encouragement, and guidance leading to college acceptance.

We create a story arc for your student’s high school journey—connecting activities, leadership roles, and experiences to highlight strengths and unique qualities. Using clear questions and a personality assessments, we identify strengths, weaknesses, interests, and skills to guide strategic planning.

Parent consultations include a focused discussion on how you can best support your teen—covering key deadlines, important opportunities, internship connections, and other resources tailored to your student’s goals.

When do we need a College Consultation?

8th Grade

Why it’s not too early for a college consultation

Eighth grade offers the chance to get ahead. Students can build strong study habits, start high school classes (and GPA), select freshman courses wisely, and try the practice PSAT. A consultation provides a clear plan, confidence, and a head start on standing out.

Freshman

Why this the ideal time for a college consultation

Freshman year sets the foundation with GPA focus, smart class selection, and PSAT practice. Regular check-ins break the process into manageable steps—and help students gain confidence as they go.

Sophomores

Why this a key year for a college consultation

Sophomore year shapes direction through course choices, PSAT prep, and activity focus. Guided check-ins help students explore opportunities and make thoughtful choices along the way.

Juniors

Why this a pivotal year for a college consultation

Junior year drives the college process: test timing, campus visits, Common App setup, and essay prep. Steady check-ins keep students on track with goals, grades, and deadlines, helping them stay focused, organized, and encouraged during a challenging academic year.

Seniors

Why this a critical time for a college consultation

Senior year is all about execution—applications, essays, recommendations, and scholarships. Consistent check-ins help students enjoy the process and maximize their senior year—finishing high school strong while making plans for college.

Ongoing Support

Why it’s best to continue college consultations

When students have support from 8th grade through senior year, they gain the guidance needed to reach their full potential. Consistent counsel provides a safe space to explore goals, make informed decisions, adjust plans as they grow, and ensure their story, leadership, and achievements align to stand out in the college application process.

Meet Angela

Write College Prep grew out of Angela Henderson Smith’s own experience as both an educator and a parent navigating the college process. After walking through applications with her oldest child and seeing how overwhelming it could feel, she began researching what colleges truly look for and helping students craft stronger, more authentic essays. Today, she and her team guide families with clear strategy, thoughtful planning, and writing support that helps students approach college prep with confidence.
